    No black box. The Fractal Model leverages Microsoft Excel and provides users with unlocked and auditable calculations and algorithms. Users can customize formulas and add their own cash flow (or use Fractal’s cash flow model).

  • UNMATCHED PHYSICS ENGINE

    The Fractal Model accurately simulates Efficiencies (user configurable curves), degradation (6 different chemistries + user-defined chemistry), auxiliary load, and throughput (track MWh), state of charge (SOC) timestamp by timestamp tracking of battery energy)

  • FAST AND POWERFUL

    The Fractal Model has inputs ranging from seasonal (12 months x 24 hours) to hourly (8760 hours x 40 years). The Fractal Model Add-in is 20 times faster than VBA and automatically optimizes the dispatch using hourly prices and 15 min prices.

  • ESTABLISHED

    The Fractal Model is an established technoeconomic model in the energy industry. It is used for project development, due diligence, project finance and tax equity. The Fractal team has a six-year track record of delivering project design and analysis using the Fractal Model.

 

 

  • DESIGN/DISPATCH FLEXIBILITY

    The Fractal Model provides design and analysis for standalone BESS or hybrid resources (PV+S (AC or DC coupled), wind+storage, gas+storage). Projects can be FTM or BTM. Dispatch can be merchant, full off-take, or quasi-merchant.

  • UMLIMITED REVENUE STREAMS

    The Fractal Model can analyze individual revenue streams or combinations of them, including partial or full power purchase agreements (PPAs), tolls, and energy storage service agreements (ESSAs). Users can model primary, secondary, and tertiary revenue streams from participation in wholesale markets, retail energy, and demand charge offsets.

  • ACCURATE COSTS

    The Fractal Model is the only tool that models CAPEX, OPEX, and degradation according to real market data. Fractal aggregates project costs from procurements across different sizes, technologies, and CODs quarterly.

  • MULTIPLE TECHNOLOGIES

    The Fractal Model enables users to analyze and benchmark projects across various battery technologies, including Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP), Lithium Nickle Manganese Cobalt Oxide (NMC), and Lithium Titanate (LTO), Flow Batteries, Zinc Aqueous Batteries, and Sodium Sulphur Batteries. The Fractal Model has built-in degradation curves and losses for each technology.

    The Fractal Model analyzes both individual applications and combinations of multiple applications. This includes wholesale power and ancillary services, renewable energy shifting, load following and peak shaving, capacity market obligations, resource adequacy (RA), Solar PV smoothing and firming, curtailment reduction, and the recapture of clipped energy from Solar PV. Additionally, the Fractal Model takes into account usable energy throughput and state of charge when evaluating these applications.

    The Fractal Model includes functionality to analyze various state-level energy storage programs, such as the California Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP), the Massachusetts Solar Massachusetts Renewable Target (SMART), the New York Value of Distributed Energy Resources (VDER), the Massachusetts Clean Peak Energy Standard, the Massachusetts/Rhode Island Connected Solutions program, and the New York Index Storage Credits (ISC). Additionally, users have the ability to create customized programs.

    Fractal Energy gives developers and operators access to historical ISO data (energy, ancillary services, system load and generation, etc.) and the ability to create custom dashboards for real-time monitoring. Users can even set up email and text alerts for key data points to automatically receive alerts for critical events.

    Fractal Model has built-in functionalities for all North American Indeopendent System Operators (ISOs)/Regional Tramission Operators (RTOs), and is customizable for European and Asia Pacific Markets. Our team can quickly adapt the models to emerging markets.

    Fractal Model users can visualize current operational infrastructure and price data to discover the best sites for storage projects. Users can map transmission and distribution lines, power plants by fuel type, and retail utility maps. Users can see and compare historical price data and potential BESS performance across markets.
